Isaac Del Toro, Tadej Pogacar
On the 7th of October we have another one of the Italian autumn classics, the Tre Valli Varesine. This is one of the most prestigious late-season races and is often used as preparation towards Il Lombardia. The race starts off at 12:15CET and should finish at 16:40CET.
The 198-kilometer long race follows a traditional course, which will include many laps of a hilly circuit in and around Varese. There are 3400 meters of climbing and it's a race that isn't as difficult but resembles the World and European Championships.
Here we have a 4-kilometer ascent with a small flat section that will be ridden all day long, but in the final laps there is a similar but extra climb added in to the mix with ramps of over 10%. The final kilometer of the race is flat but this comes after a short climb where differences can still be made. A sprint finish isn't impossible however.
UAE Team Emirates - XRG is at the start with Tadej Pogacar, after he promised to return as last year's race was cancelled due to bad weather. Hence UAE is the team to beat but he may want to gift the victory to a teammate, with Giro dell'Emilia Isaac del Toro and Jay Vine as options. It's hard not to see the team take the win. Other teams should try however including a Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe with Primoz Roglic and Jai Hindley; Toms Skujins, Ben Healy, Quinn Simmons, and Julian Alaphilippe...

Prediction Tre Valli Varesine 2025:

*** Tadej Pogacar, Isaac del Toro
** Toms Skujins, Ben Healy, Quinn Simmons, Tom Pidcock
* Jay Vine, Lenny Martínez, Afonso Eulálio, Antonio Tiberi, Paul Lapeira, Mikkel Honoré, Valentin Madouas, Egan Bernal, Albert Philipsen, Jai Hindley, Maxim van Gils, Giulio Pellizzari, Oscar Onley, Cian Uijtdebroeks, Ben Tulett, Clément Champoussin, Michael Storer, Julian Alaphilippe, Tobias Johannessen
Pick: Isaac del Toro
How: Pogacar will probably be the strongest at the start but it's not going to be a race where he will go all-in to take the win. Rather, it's more likely he will try to help a teammate achieve this.
