Technological advancements are key in modern day pro cycling and they never end. The top teams work in close connection with their bike supplier, who constantly try to deliver bikes with the biggest amount of improvements possible. At the Tour de Romandie's prologue, Tadej Pogacar is racing for the first time with the Colnago TT2 time trial bike, a new model which should also be used later on at the 2026 Tour de France.
"On April 28, during the prologue time trial of the Tour de Romandie, Tadej Pogacar will ride a prototype time trial bike. This is a prototype of the TT2, a model that will be made available to the dealer network starting from the end of September 2026," read a statement from Colnago.
According to the Italian bike brand this is a bike that will allow the likes of Pogacar, João Almeida or Isaac del Toro to save an extra 2 watts at a speed of 50Km/h in comparison to the TT1 which the team currently races in as well. However the big goal of this bike was not only to make it more aerodynamic, but also to make it lighter.
Whilst on the flat terrain it may not make as much of a difference, it certainly does in the uphill terrain. The TT2 is 550 grams lighter than its precedent, which can be the difference between winning or losing in the World Tour. Such an improvement can certainly make the difference for the UAE team, in a time where the time trials have in general become shorter and more often including climbs. Colnago also argues the bike has better stability and handling, whilst the weight is also key in regaining speed on technical courses.

A more user-friendly bike

As previously mentioned, it is a bike that is going into the market in September, and will not only be available to UAE Team Emirates - XRG and UAE Team ADQ. Hence, the bike was not designed to be a single size but instead have four different size possibilities from XS to L, allowing riders of different heights to fully take advantage of his design.
"The TT2 represents an evolution of the TT1, already recognized as one of the best-performing aerodynamic bikes in the World Tour. The main developments focus on a significant reduction in overall weight, while maintaining—or where possible, slightly improving—its aerodynamic performance. The system has also been simplified to make it even more accessible and user-friendly for the amateur cyclist market".
