Team Polti Kometa's Paul Double, recently 3rd from the Tour of Turkey, spoke about his non-selection for the Giro di Italia (May 4-26). Although he says he respects the choice of his team, the Briton can't hide his disappointment after a strong spring campaign.
"I deserved to go," he begins a video published on the In The Wheels Youtube channel. "After the Giro di Abruzzo, I was supposed to do Asturias, but ultimately they changed my program to send me to the Tour of Turkey, in which I got an overall place."
"At that time it was 35 days of racing," he continued. "They told me that I deserved to go to the Giro but that if I went it would already give me more than 50 days of racing. So they preferred that I take some rest and concentrate on the second part of the season."
"Obviously I was keen to go to the Giro, but I fully respect this decision. I hope the team will do great things and I can't wait to see them at work," Double concluded.
