Tadej Pogacar suffered a rare trip to the tarmac on Saturday afternoon in Tuscany. Of course, it didn't stop the Slovenian emerging victorious at
Strade Bianche 2025, but it did raise the stress levels for fans of the Slovenian and the
UAE Team Emirates - XRG squad. Partly because of this warning sign, could the much rumoured
Paris-Roubaix debut of Pogacar now be delayed for another year?
It all started back in February, when Pogacar shared a video recorded by teammate Tim Wellens, of himself riding on the famous cobblestones of the Trouée d'Arenberg. Ever since that video emerged, the cycling rumour mill has been spinning in overdrive about the potential of the world champion tackling the iconic French Monument for the first time in his illustrious career in 2025. The latest news from the UAE Team Emirates - XRG camp though, seems to cast a final blow to this hope.
"This race can be too dangerous,"
UAE's Mauro Gianetti explains to La Gazzetta dello Sport following Strade Bianche, where as mentioned, Pogacar took a heavy tumble mid-race, although ultimately managed to bounce straight back up and solo to his expected victory. "I told him again there is time to compete in the hell of the north, it's better to wait and not to do it this year."
So, it is true then that Tadej wants to compete in the hell of the north. His boss is the one who's asking him to defer.
