Filippo Ganna ended up claiming victory in the midst of so much confusion after being one of the few to cross the finish line on the correct route. Or did he? No! The race organizers later confirmed that the results of the first stage had been annulled.
As if that wasn't bad enough, the day didn't end there! Shortly after the end of the stage, according
to information from Correio da Manhã, two GNR motorcycles that were deployed to monitor the race ended up in an accident on the A22, near the Odiáxere area.
The two soldiers, aged 32 and 35, were assisted at the scene and transported to Portimão hospital with minor injuries. The accident happened at around 6pm and 20 operatives attended the scene, with support from the Lagos Volunteer Fire Brigade, INEM, GNR and the Via do Infante concessionaire.
