Nairo Quintana's first race on his return to competition in 2024 after more than a year came at the Colombian
national championships this Thursday, January 25, specifically in the elite men's time trial.
The
Movistar Team rider, who signed with the Spanish team to make an exciting return to WorldTour cycling this year, was just off the podium, in 4th position, completing the time trial in a total time of 56:22, 24 seconds behind Rodrigo Contreras, who took bronze, and 02:20 behind Daniel Martinez, who became a four-time champion after the 2019, 2020 and 2022 editions.
After the time trial, Quintana spoke to the media amid the roars of the fans who could not stop cheering for their idol. In these statements, the 33-year-old veteran assured that he is very motivated to face 2024, especially after a more than satisfactory fourth place in the Colombian time trial.
"You always want more, don't you?" said Nairo Quintana in reference to his fourth place. "But I think we're on the right track. The season is long and today is the first day of competition. Happy to be able to race again with this bib on my back so I can have a great season and make a great impression."
Next Sunday, January 28, Quintana will race in the men's road race at the Colombian National Championships.
