"My legs are really good which is positive for the weeks ahead" - Tim Wellens upbeat with form despite lack of Opening Weekend result

Tim Wellens has been one of the headliner of the Opening Weekend, attacking hard both Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Kuurne - Bruxelles - Kuurne. He talks of good form and motivation towards the rest of the spring.

“Today maybe I could have played it different tactically but my legs are really good which is positive for the weeks ahead," Wellens said at the end of Kuurne, where he finished fifth. "I liked the finales of both races. For sure it would have been better for me if the finish was slightly uphill but that wasn’t the case. It was a really nice weekend of racing all-round.”

Wellens attacked the Muur de Geraardsbergen on Saturday in pursuit of Dylan van Baarle, but crossed the line 26th as his attack was cancelled in sight of the line. He attacked once again this Sunday however causing the winning move, but from there was again the last in the sprint as Jumbo-Visma decimated the competition once again.

The Belgian will have the company of Tadej Pogacar in the most important of the cobbled classics, however for the time being he has been enjoying good form, and has with certainty proved his worth as a strong card for the classics this weekend.
