Mike Teunissen takes powerful victory on brutal stage 3 of the 2023 Renewi Tour

On a thrilling day of non-stop, full gas racing, Mike Teunissen emerged victorious on stage 3 of the 2023 Renewi Tour, sprinting to victory from an elite group.

A very explosive hilly stage and one which will be very exciting. Stage 3 of the Renewi Tour will see the riders in pure Flandrien roads and they will be tackling several of the most famous cobbled climbs, race the traditional circuit of the race and end in Geraardsbergen.

With no real breakaway going clear for most of the day, there was instead just groups of riders spread all over the wet road.

After many, many riders had attacked, been caught and counter-attacked, the situation heading into the final 20km of the day was an elite 8-man group containing the likes of Fred Wright, Arnaud De Lie, Marc Hirschi and Yves Lampaert led the main peloton by around 30 seconds.

Tim Wellens, who was in the lead group, began to struggle with a flat tire, hanging on to the back of the group.

With 10km to go though he was still holding on and the gap was still maintaining at 25 seconds.

Once Alpecin-Deceuninck took to the front to try and secure a sprint for Jasper Philipsen however, that time gap did begin to drop.

Into the final 5km and the lead group began to split and break up, with De Lie being the first to drop off.

With just over a kilometre to go, Mike Teunissen made a massive move and the chase behind stalled.

Inside the final 200 metres and Teunissen was struggling to hold on, but hold on he did! Taking the win ahead of Tim Wellens in second with the UAE Team Emirates man moving into the overall lead.
