Miguel Ángel López won the first stage of the Tour of the Gila. The Colombian Team Medellin rider took the win on the climb ahead of Norwegian Torbjonr Roed and American Richard Arnopol.
The South American rider left his rivals on the final ascent to Mogollon Ghost Town with a tremendous attack that left them completely out of options. Lopez is the big favorite to take the final victory in the New Mexico stage race.
