Miguel Ángel López returns to competition in Spain ahead of Vuelta a España

Astana Qazaqstan Team are having a very complicated season, partly due to having one of their leader Miguel Ángel López out of both Grand Tours so far due to a nagging hip injury that caught the Colombian off guard. However, he is set to make his return to the road very soon.

López suffered with hip pain during the first days of the Giro d'Italia and abandoned the race in shocking manner. In a long history of complicated situation in Grand Tours, this was only one more for the Colombian. He had the ambition of returning the Tour de France, but to prioritize his recovery he delayed the comeback to the peloton in order to target the Vuelta a España in his best form.

Gazzetta dello Sport reported that López will return to competition on the 25th of July at the Prueba Villafranca, and is also likely to ride the Vuelta a Castila y Léon - a program similar to that of Vincenzo Nibali - ahead of the Vuelta a España.
