Mie Bjorndal Ottestad has outsprinted
Marlen Reusser and taken the win on stage 2 of the 2025
Vuelta a Burgos Feminas, as world champion
Lotte Kopecky suffered a major blow, likely ruling the
Team SD Worx - Protime leader out of the general classification fight.
With just Andrea Alzate (Eneicat - CMTeam) and Irene Cagnazzo (BePink - Imatra - Bongioanni) getting themselves up the road early and into the breakaway, the peloton didn't seem too concerned about the break, allowing a bit of leeway. With 40km to go though, the attacking duo were still holding firm, keeping around a two minute advantage over the bunch. Once the peloton properly ramped up the pace, that gap was quickly closed though and with 32km to go, the break was caught.
A big crash at the 30km to go marker then saw around 20 riders go down, with Lotte Kopecky among the notable riders caught out behind the resultant split in the peloton. By 10km to go, Kopecky's group was close to a minute down on the front of the race as UAE Team ADQ looked to take advantage. On the final categorised climb of the day, Elisa Longo Borghini then looked to further press home the advantage
by attacking from the lead group, with Marlen Reusser quickly on the Italian's back wheel.
On the descent towards the finishing line, Reusser attacked again, being joined by Mie Bjorndal Ottestad at the front. With that duo going all the way to the line as well, it was eventually Ottestad who held off Reusser in the sprint for the stage win.
