Michael Matthews returns to stage racing action and is ready to hunt for stage wins at the Tour de Suisse. He comes as the leader of Team BikeExchange - Jayco in anticipation for the Tour de Suisse.
“I’m looking forward for the Tour de Suisse, it’s always a race that I really enjoyed doing. It’s a race suited to my characteristics with a lot of climbing along the way and normally a reduced bunch in the finale," the Australian said in a press release from the team. "I’ve done some good preparation and I think there are a quite few stages for me also, it’s a good opportunity to continue building my condition for the Tour de France. We are bringing a good team to Switzerland and we’re aiming for some good results," he added.
The Australian will be supported by countryman Damien Howson, who returns from the Giro d'Italia, and New Zealander Dion Smith, who will provide important support for Matthews in the fast finishes with the seasoned Cameron Meyer. Tanel Kangert and Jan Maas, both climbers, complete up the seven-rider squad for the eight-day stage race. The 2022 edition of the event has a series of hilly stages, followed by two high-altitude tests before the race is settled in a mostly flat individual time trial in Vaduz.
