Now in June the talks behind the scenes for many riders and teams become quite deep. A new report indicated that
Matteo Trentin is very likely to move out of
UAE Team Emirates and join the uprising
Tudor Pro Cycling Team.
Trentin is at the end of his contract with UAE and although he gets his freedom, could be looking for a new opportunity. A classics rider by excellence, the Italian has had tremendous amounts of success over the late 2010's which included an European title and being on the verge of the rainbow jersey in Yorkshire, however he has over the past years not shown the same consistency.
He's found a new role within the team as a domestique, having helped Tadej Pogacar to an extensive and successful spring this year. However UAE has moved on in terms of leadership and the 33-year old does no longer find himself in the lead of big races. At Tudor there is a search for quality World Tour riders and Trentin may be one of the biggest targets.
The Italian is currently racing the Criterium du Dauphiné where he is showing good form, having sprinted to second place on both stages 1 and 3 (the latter benefiting from relegations in front of him). He's not certain but is in the long list for UAE's lineup for the Tour de France as the team looks to take the title, however his eyes could also be on the Glasgow worlds where he conquered the European stripes back in 2018.
