Matej Mohoric showed good form throughout the spring but couldn't bring in the hoped result. Amstel Gold Race has a profile that suits him quite well and the leader of Bahrain - Victorious will be one of the big contenders for a top result.
“I think I've raced here every year since turning pro. In other words, I have the most experience with this competition. I also love this race," Mohoric said ahead of the race. The Slovenian has only once finished in the Top10 back in 2021 when he rode to ninth spot. However he could improve on that this year if she shows his best legs.
He was on the attack constantly at the Opening Weekend, and also finished on the Top10 of Strade Bianche, Milano-Sanremo and the E3 Saxo Classic. Possibly however his focus in the earlier classics cost him over the recent weeks. He abandoned the Tour of Flanders but at Paris-Roubaix he also couldn't bring in a strong result, crossing the line in 29th place.
However, he reassures that his form has not passed. “My condition is good, the legs are still there. I had a lot of bad luck in the previous three races, so now I want to turn that around and get a result," he concluded. He won't be the only Slovenian that will be within a shot of the win, compatriot Tadej Pogacar comes in as a big favourite for the race for the first time in his career.
