FDJ Nouvelle-Aquitaine Futuroscope has gotten a very strong win at
Amstel Gold Race as their strategy payed off, directing their power onto the race finale in which
Marta Cavalli took advantage of to deal a striking attack that earned her success.
"I felt tired in the last 15 kilometers but my team encouraged me in the final and I made the decision to go. I tried to go alone, it was all or nothing. It's an incredible feeling!" She said after the finish. After a very conservative race from both her and the team, Cavalli had the legs to follow the acceleration of Annemiek van Vleuten up the Cauberg in the finale, and over the top she made a sharp attack that was not followed by anyone. It was only the third win of her career, but the most important.
"These are incredible feelings, I still can't believe it! Every time I look at my phone, I still cry because a lot of friends and fans are writing to congratulate me. That's a lot of emotion for me because I've done a lot of work to get here and a lot of people are involved with me. I think that's the best way to say thank you to everyone. I love my job and it's was the best way to end the day! It's not the finish line, it's just the beginning!" Cavalli said.
The Italian will be racing the other two Ardennes classics in the coming weeks, but before she will be eyeing Paris-Roubaix where she finished inside the Top10 last year and will be heading in with high ambitions.
