Madis Mihkels has taken the biggest win of his career this afternoon at the Deutschland Tour, as he outsprinted Danny van Poppel in the reduced bunch sprint at the end of an explosive day.
The day was not too hard but it had a rolling finale where some action took place. In the penultimate lap a few riders moved for bonus seconds and an attack briefly gained space on the peloton. The move was cancelled but then Harm Vanhoucke also went on the attack.
The finale then saw a bunch sprint come to be, a drag to the line made it hard with Julien Simon attempting an early surprise. Sam Bennett did the leadout for Danny van Poppel as BORA- hansgrohe swarmed the head of the peloton, however the Dutchman did not have the legs to match Madis Mihkels in the final sprint.
