#LaVuelta24 Safely in after another hilly stage, no change in the GC battle today
Mattias Skjelmose made clear his main for 2024 was the Vuelta a Espana. 10 stages in however, and things haven't exactly been going to plan for Lidl-Trek's Dane with him 13th in the general classification, over seven minutes down on the Red Jersey wearing Ben O'Connor.
A staple of the first week in Spain (and Portugal), was the searing temperatures as rider's tackled the final Grand Tour of the year in heat that has continued to flirt around the 40 degrees Celsius mark. Although the riders have moved to northern Spain for the second week, a mistake in Skjelmose's attire on stage 10 ensured he was still feeling the heat more than most in the peloton.
''It went pretty well, I felt better than in the first week," assesses the 23-year-old in his post-stage interview. "I only made the mistake of putting on my normal cycling clothes in these temperatures, instead of my summer clothes. That made me just as warm as in southern Spain."
