Further tests carried out after Kevin Geniets crashed on Sunday in Paris-Nice revealed that he suffered a fractured wrist. His period of unavailability will be known at a later date. Get well soon, Kevin!
After he crashed on the final stage of Paris-Nice and abandoned the race on Sunday, Groupama-FDJ have confirmed that Kevin Geniets has suffered a fractured wrist and will be out of action for an unknown period of time.
Geniets fell on the descent of the Côte de Châteauneuf with around 65km to go in a crash that also involved Carlos Rodríguez and Santiago Buitrago. The Colombian rider also abandoned the race after he had already hit the deck earlier in the week.
The Luxembourger had a strong start to the season, winning the Grand Prix La Marseillaise in his opening race. Now forced to sit on the sidelines for what will probably be a few weeks, Geniets will likely miss several Classics races, where he would have played an important role for his French team. This will also disrupt his preparation for some of the bigger races later in the season, which could possibly hinder his chances of selection.
