Kasper Asgreen will no longer be racing in 2022, citing fatigue syndrom after what was a complicated season and a series of crashes which have built up to have the Danish classics specialist struggle through the last few months.
In a press release, Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team have explained that after Asgreen's crash which saw him abandon the Tour de Suisse, he struggled to ever recover. With the Danish Grand Depart, the team made the effort to see Asgreen at the startline, but the 27-year old struggled through the opening week and abandoned before the start of stage nine.
"The stresses of the crash and the subsequent attempts to get him ready for the Tour has unfortunately led to Kasper developing a fatigue syndrome, meaning that his body is no longer recovering from even low intensity efforts". After the Tour, the team has noted that Asgreen had kept struggling with fatigue
"It has therefore been decided that he will stop racing for the rest of this season and take a period of recuperation, before focusing on his preparations for 2023," the team stated.
