The organization of the Volta NXT Classic can still celebrate the presence of defending champion Kaden Groves. The Australian sprinter has not been in action in recent weeks due to knee problems, but will return to racing on Saturday. His team Alpecin-Deceuninck informed WielerFlits of this.
The 25-year-old Groves started his season with the UAE Tour and Paris-Nice, but the fast man had to leave the 'Race to the Sun' early. The Australian suffered from prepatellar friction syndrome, the most common friction problem of the knee in cyclists, after hitting his knee against his handlebars during training.
Groves was then not allowed to touch his bike for six days and had to skip the Volta a Catalunya, but is now fit enough to race again. He will therefore appear at the start of the Volta NXT Classic on Saturday as defending champion. Groves defeated Maxim Van Gils and Pascal Eenkhoorn in this race last year.
