UAE Team Emirates - XRG's Juan Ayuso has safely navigated the final stage to secure overall victory at Tirreno-Adriatico 2025. In the stage 7 bunch sprint, Jonathan Milan powered to the win ahead of Sam Bennett.
A five man group of Mathieu van der Poel, Kevin Vauquelin, Lucas Hamilton, Manuele Tarozzi and Bjoern Koerdt got themselves up the road and into the early breakaway. For a while, things looked relatively good for the strong group too. With Filippo Ganna sitting just 1 second behind 2nd placed Antonio Tiberi in the GC though, the INEOS Grenadiers were soon chasing incredibly hard, with the intermediate sprint and bonus seconds on offer in mind.
By the top of the only categorised climb of the day at around 90km to go, all of the break had been swallowed up, with a number of the peloton's leading sprinters also in difficulty out the back of the bunch.
In between the climb and the intermediate sprint, dropped sprinters such as Dylan Groenewegen, Paul Magnier and Olav Kooij all got back into contact with the peloton. At the intermediate sprint though, only Jonathan Milan reared his head of the sprinters, and that was only to ultimately offer his good friend Ganna a leadout, with the INEOS star getting the maximum bonus seconds on offer to overtake Tiberi in the GC and rise to 2nd overall behind Juan Ayuso.
With no one really attempting a flying attack to deny the sprint teams from there, a bunch sprint seemed to be the inevitable finale to the day as the peloton headed onto the final lap of the finishing circuit. In a frantic fight for the front in the final kilometre, there was a nasty crash just before the line, but eventually Jonathan Milan edged out Sam Bennett for the win.
