Brandon McNulty finished the 7th stage of
Paris-Nice in 7th place in the overall standings, up one position from the previous stage, after arriving with the rest of the favourites in Auron. In today's stage, it was hoped that he could form a dangerous duo with
João Almeida in an attempt to take the podium, but the American has dropped out early.
From the start of the stage, McNulty was always poorly placed and ended up losing contact with the peloton 108km from the finish, before the first categorized climb of the day, the Col de Porte, and his abandonment was confirmed a few minutes later, probably due to the fatigue accumulated in a race marked by cold, rain and snow. It was a blow to the aspirations of
UAE Team Emirates - XRG, which saw Pavel Sivakov also drop out of the peloton a few kilometers later, leaving João Almeida with few tactical options to play with in this 8th and final stage of the "Race to the Sun".
