Just days after sealing a superb stage win at the Tour de
Romandie,
Jay Vine begins the 2025 Giro d’Italia with measured optimism.
Speaking to Cycling Pro Net ahead of the first stage, which takes place
tomorrow, the UAE Team Emirates – XRG rider acknowledged the confidence gained
from his recent performance, but emphasised the long road ahead.
“Yeah, I mean, it's a new race,” Vine replied. “And yeah,
we'll see. The hard part of the race is not for another, you know, two weeks,
three weeks… so just kind of match confidence as you can.”
Asked about his mindset entering the race, Vine kept things
simple: “I just start the way I've been starting normally… try and have a nice
start, a good finish, and yeah hopefully no major accidents and we can have a
nice time in Rome in three weeks.”
With a packed UAE squad including multiple GC contenders, namely
Juan Ayuso and
Adam Yates, Vine confirmed he will be playing a support role,
“We’ve got two really good leaders… I’m there to try and help the team win a
Grand Tour.”
Last year, UAE dominated the race with Pogacar. The question
now, is can Vine help either Yates or Ayuso to the pink jersey?
