"It was almost like a second day off" - Remco Evenepoel reacts to a calm stage 10 ahead of the storm on Wednesday

White jersey Remco Evenepoel cruised through the tenth stage of this year's Tour de France without much of a problem. Thus the Soudal - Quick-Step leader can turn his sight towards the stage 11 - one that promises another showdown between the GC favourites.

"It was almost like a second day off," said Evenepoel after the tenth stage to Saint-Amand-Montrond. "I was a little nervous because of the risk of echelons in the cross winds, but my team remained vigilant all day," he complimented Yves Lampaert among others.

"In the end, there were no gaps to deal with, nor any crashes, so everything went well," Evenepoel concluded. In the general classification he remains 33 seconds behind yellow jersey Tadej Pogacar, while Visma | Lease a Bike leader Jonas Vingegaard is 42 seconds further behind the Belgian.

He then turned his attention to the eleventh stage of the Tour towards Le Lioran, which includes more than four thousand metres of elevation gain over a distance of more than two hundred. "We can expect a great fight tomorrow for the breakaway. We know it’s not an easy route, it goes up and down all the time. We can expect that there will be two races, one for the breakaway and one for the general classification. I think Romain Bardet will be extremely motivated to try to win, I hope for him that he will at least manage to get a position at the front to try his luck."
