"It is remarkable how someone at the end of the season still has the ambition to win as many race as possible" - Christoph Roodhooft amazed by Jasper Philipsen's attitude

Jasper Philipsen has had himself a very successful year and arguably positioned himself as the premier sprinter in the World Tour peloton. That desire to win remains a strong one however.

“He has let us know that he still wants to win as much as possible, despite four stage victories and the green jersey in the Tour and a long season,” Alpecin-Deceuninck's sporting manager Christoph Roodhooft told Het Nieuwsblad ahead of Philipsen's appearance at the Bretagne Classic. “He currently has eleven victories, but noted that Pogacar has sixteen victories to his name. He secretly wants to try to become the victor and is therefore also taking part in the Tour of Turkey, for example.”

Philipsen has previously commented on his desire to catch Tadej Pogacar's tally of wins over the course of the year and that is one reason his determination hasn't waned. The Belgian's attitude has left his team boss delighted.

“It is remarkable how someone at the end of the season still has the ambition to win as many race as possible," Roodhooft continues. "If that is still your silent wish after a long season, then it proves to me that everything is in balance within the team. If riders can manage this themselves, then the picture is correct.”
