Attila Valter has had a strong start to his 2024 season, as the Hungarian rider finished fifth overall at the recent UAE Tour, which concluded on Sunday with a mountaintop finish on Jebel Hafeet.
In an interview with Lukáš Ronald Lukács (@lucasaganronald on Twitter) after the race, the Team Visma | Lease a Bike rider stated that “I came here with big goals, because it is not easy to get an opportunity in one of the strongest teams in the world, and if you get it, you have to take advantage of it”.
Valter certainly did that on the two mountaintop finishes during the race, as he finished sixth on Jebel Jais and fifth on Jebel Hafeet to secure his top five result in the general classification. On his climbing performances at the race, the Hungarian said “on the mountain I proved, mostly to myself, that I can compete with the best even on more serious climbs”.
Looking ahead to what he has coming up, he said “I am now very satisfied traveling to Hungary for a few days before I will ride on the famous white dusty roads at Strade Bianche”. After Sunday’s race in Tuscany, where he finished fifth last year, Valter will then head to Tirreno-Adriatico to ride in support of Jonas Vingegaard.
