Intermarché - Wanty - Gobert Matériaux have announced a round of signings, confirming three of their riders into 2023 as they keep building a solid base to work around their leaders for the season to come.
"I’m happy that we can continue working with Simone Petilli, Boy van Poppel and Loïc Vliegen, three appreciated elements which became the building blocks of our team," team performance manager Aike Visbeek said in a press release. Three riders who have different roles in the team, however have been crucial for the team's performances this year.
Visbeek stressed the importance of van Poppel's performances alongside Gerben Thijssen in the sprints, whilst also pointing towards Loic Vliegen and Simone Petilli's qualities in the hilly terrain and classics where the team continues to focus on having a wide variety of opportunities within the domestic Belgian calendar.
Alexander Kristoff is set to leave the team, however young talent Biniam Girmay will be the team's leader for the upcoming years as he holds a contract until 2026. Intermarché is looking to still make moves in the transfer period, having some budget left to re-sign and sign more riders - currently 19 riders are already confirmed to represent the squad in the coming season.
