INEOS Grenadiers are betting on their future, and one of their main stars World time-trial champion
Filippo Ganna has just signed a long-term contract with the British team until 2027.
“It’s exciting being a part of this team, not least the way we approach goals and the amount of effort that’s put into our development and equipment. Everything is based around the objective of making us go faster," Ganna explained in a press release, justifying his decision to commit to the team with such an extensive contract. "Whether it’s with the Performance Team, working with our partners or learning from the wider experience within INEOS Sport. When there’s that much dedication from everyone around you, it just makes you want to go out there and give it your all".
The 26-year old joined INEOS in 2019 after being brought from UAE Team Emirates. One of the best riders on the track, Ganna kept that potential and results, but has managed to transfer them onto the road where he has in the years since won the last two time-trial World championships, six stages at the Giro d'Italia and a total of 21 wins in the space of three and a half seasons.
This, despite the frequent work he does for the team's sprinters, aswell as his presence in the Grand Tours - in which he's been crucial to the wins of Tao Geoghegan Hart and Egan Bernal at the Giro d'Italia. This summer he made his debut in the Tour de France, leaving without a win however having a consistent support role throughout the race. The Italian is also set to have a tilt at the World Hour Record soon.
“There is still plenty to focus on for the rest of this season and going into next year," he said. "And having that level of support behind me is so important. I’m looking forward to spending more of my career with this Team".
A match made in heaven, the five years show the good collaboration the team has had with Ganna in the past years, and team's bike sponsor Pinarello will surely be even more satisfied to keep one of Italy's stars on board.
