"In this Giro he has to do only one thing" - Vincenzo Nibali's advice to Primoz Roglic ahead of 2025 Giro d'Italia

The route and profiles of the 2025 Giro d'Italia have arrived and the hype is already beginning to rise. Expected to be front and centre of the fight for the Maglia Rosa is Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe leader Primoz Roglic and according to two-time Giro winner Vincenzo Nibali, the Slovenian only needs to do one thing to add another Grand Tour victory to his palmares.
"Even a rider like Roglic, who often gets into trouble alone… unless he has an impeccable team. For me, in this Giro he has to do only one thing," Nibali explains in his review of the route and profiles of the 2025 Giro d'Italia in conversation with Bici.Pro, noting the key aspect that Roglic can focus on in the fight for the Maglia Rosa. "Make the most of the time trials, have the team escort him well and do nothing else. Wait even in the mountain stages and wait, check."
"They will definitely play an important role," Nibali says of the time trials. "If you are in good shape, those first 13 kilometres in Tirana already give you a clear indication of where you are in terms of condition and this is true for everyone. While in general for time trialists, like Roglic for example, they are essential. The time trials will allow Roglic to gain precious ground. And then to manage the race in a certain way."
As touched upon by Nibali though, the strength of teams and support could also be a key part of the fight for the 2025 Giro d'Italia. "It matters a lot. With such a significant difference in altitude, it is essential to have a team that can support you from the first stages," the Italian says. "The goal is to save yourself. If halfway through the Giro your companions are already tired, you risk being left alone in the most challenging part, and that is a problem."

When they have a few issues they try to look outside of the real issue instead of themselves. It odd so many of the team are making no complaints and getting on with their job. - many people advise him to grow slowly and rather do giro and/or vuelta instead of tdf. but i can totally understand that he is not satisfied with taking over once pogi declines, but instead beat him in his prime. so if he goes for tdf again, i‘m all for it. let‘s hope that pogi recovers soon!Ketterechts07-11-2026
- So gracious to offer something no-one would be prepared to pay for. The Giro is not the Tour and doesn’t command the same interest or attract the same “elite” (those willing to pay to be a part of something they consider has ego boosting potential). Roadside viewing will always largely remain free for everyone outside circuits. Introduction of a symbolic entrance to mountain climbs is worthy of exploration. Asking 1-2€ isn’t going to repulse real fans (most will spend 50-100€ on their outing that day all things included) but will prevent a portion of the total knobhead thrillseekers who will join in any large gathering as long as it’s free, just because they’re attracted to crowds, without which it it difficult for them to work up their anti-social behaviour.Jumpyjohn07-11-2026

- any rider less than 25 whether they are really ready for the position of leadership of GT is probably not the case. I think Pogi himself suffered when he was defeated by Jonas in the TDF twice. But that would be the team's job to ensure support so that they can bounce back. It requires a team and time to get back up and win after getting knocked down.abstractengineer07-11-2026
