"I will race tomorrow to win, not to finish in this position we'll fight": Mattias Skjelmose shows ambition of winning the GC of Tour des Alpes Maritimes et du Var

Mattias Skjelmose achieved his second professional victory again in French lands, after winning a uphill stage in Étoile de Bessèges, the Dane from Trek-Segafredo won the stage 2 of Tour des Alpes Maritimes et du Var in a selective group sprint.

"I am very happy, I didn't expect this today. We fell asleep yesterday when Kevin (Vauquelin) and Neilson (Powless) attacked, but today I was able to take my revenge. I didn't have a team-mate for the sprint, but they stayed with me all day to help me. Sometimes it's also good to do the sprint alone, especially when it's small groups like that", said Skjelmose in the post race interview.

With this win Skjelmose seats 5th place overall 27 seconds behind the race leader Kevin Vauquelin. The Dane knows that it won't be easy to win the general classification of the race, but he won't be contempt with his 5th place and will give ´a fight to his general classification rivals.

"After yesterday, it will be difficult to win, because the guys in front are very strong, but we will do everything to win. Obviously I will race tomorrow to win, not to finish in this position we'll fight. If it doesn't work out, too bad, but we won't go home without a fight." he concluded.
