"I think we could also work with Evenepoel" - Jumbo-Visma coach responds to whether Remco Evenepoel would fit the team

Jumbo-Visma currently are in all the headlines when it comes to the cycling world. Having the full podium at the Vuelta a Espana and an enigmatic internal battle for the win has led to an interesting question to team coach Mathieu Heijboer, of how would Remco Evenepoel fit in the team.

"I thought he would leave the race. When something like this happens, a person is normally sick. But the next day he flew again," Heijober told 'De Grote Plaat', regarding the Belgian's implosion on stage 13. But of course he also participates a bit with his bravado. The pressure is really high. Sometimes I feel sorry for him. But of course he also participates a bit with his bravado. As far as I'm concerned, however, they should judge him a lot more mildly in Belgium."

Heijboer's opinion echoes that of many of have witnessed Evenepoel be a public star since his teenage years in Belgium due to his talent in cycling. Part of Soudal - Quick-Step, and then having some controversial moments have led him to be one of the most judged and criticized riders in the peloton. At Jumbo-Visma however this week, the situation is not too different, culminating yesterday when Primoz Roglic and Jonas Vingegaard dropped Sepp Kuss at the Alto de l'Angliru.

Towards the end of the conversation, it is also discussed whether Evenepoel would fit into the ranks of Jumbo-Visma. The 41-year-old Heijboer does not really want to venture into such issues, although he does admit that they currently have many different personalities in the team. 'I think we could also work with Evenepoel. But I don't know him well enough to really say anything about it," honesty tells him.
