"I need to prove a bit to get a free role or captaincy" - Tobias Foss ready to take on Giro d'Italia in support role

While the Classics are fully underway, another group of riders is already in full preparation for Giro d'Italia. Among them is INEOS Grenadiers' new signing Tobias Foss. His place in the final lineup is not yet guaranteed, but the Norwegian has been focusing on this goal since the start of his season.

"First of all, I think I am still on the, but if I go there I will be in a support role for Geraint and Thymen," Foss told GCN. Geraint Thomas could be Tadej Pogacar's closest competitor in the fight for Pink jersey in May, which means the British team will want to make sure their lineup is ready to take up that task.

"For myself, I hope I can improve my shape so that I am really up there with them for a long time in the climbs, and can also go full gas for the TTs," he said. "So I need to prove a bit to get a free role or captaincy there, but I am also satisfied with being around them and doing my best for them."

The 26-year-old hasn't ridden a three-week race since 2022. His last two seasons at Jumbo-Visma were a struggle and as such, he comes to Ineos Grenadiers with somewhat of a point to prove, as he notes.
