Felix Gall was one of the breakout stars of the 2023 Tour de France. The 25-year-old Austrian took a brilliant stage, finished second in the King of the Mountains and eighth overall.
With the 2024 route now revealed, AG2R Citroën Team boss Vincent Lavenu holds hope of competing even higher up the general classification with Gall next summer. “It’s a very atypical Tour, with quickly mountain stages which should allow new yellow jerseys to register," Lavenu tells Cyclism'Actu. "I find that there are quite a few stages for the sprinters, I counted nine of them for my part, so they will have a nice share of the pie. For our part, we will come once again with strong and legitimate ambitions. There will of course be Felix Gall, who was the revelation of the 2023 Tour for me, but also other boys who will have ambitions."
Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar have dominated the Tour de France in recent years with each of the last four editions going to one of the pair. Add to that the likelihood of Primoz Roglic leading BORA - hansgrohe and Remco Evenepoel making his Tour de France debut, competition will be fierce in the battle for the Maillot Jaune.
"The debates have been dominated by two riders for several years, but there can always be its share of surprises," Lavenu analyses hopefully. "We don't know what will happen, there will perhaps be other protagonists, and I hope that Felix Gall will be part of it."
