A lot has been written about Tadej Pogacar's dominance at Giro d'Italia where he showed the rest of the world that he's on another level. But there's still a lot more to do for the Slovenian in 2024 if he wants to call his season an absolute success. The next big goal is the Tour de France where he'll find fresh batch of GC competitors eagerly awaiting to take on the UAE Team Emirates star.
But first things first, the 25-year-old Pogacar needs to recover from efforts in Italy, he explains to The National: "Now I’ll take a few days to switch off and relax, and then slowly rebuild and restart to try to keep these legs and improve as much as possible. I have been away from my home for a long time now, so it is important for me to spend some time there and switch off for a short period. We’ll see how the sensations are when we start again on the bike soon."
"As a rider, I felt super strong and comfortable during the three long weeks on the bike. I was in the spot where I want to be so I can take a lot of confidence with how I felt on the bike and my overall performance. After a good rest, I can try to work to improve this feeling, so I think I’m on a really good path for the next part of the season."
Pogacar has already indicated that after his phenomenal performance crowned with no less than six stage victories, he'd like to return to Giro d'Italia at some point, even if he can't tell yet whether it'll be next year. "It’s not all about the Tour. I’ve loved the Giro, and it’s about how you manage your life and where you find the happiness. I don’t think you can just solely have one big goal for the season. For me it is better to have a diverse program and go along to have a strong calendar, a good life, and try to enjoy the races."
