Brandon McNulty has had a brilliant year already in 2023. Winning a first Grand Tour stage at the Giro d'Italia and more recently taking the American national title in the individual time-trial. As such, heading into the upcoming World Championships, McNulty is relaxed.
“I had a good time at home, a nice reset mentally, I’m excited to be back racing," the 25-year-old, UAE Team Emirates rider told Cycling News from the Tour de Pologne where he is currently in action. "Hopefully this will be a good week into the Worlds to set me up well."
As mentioned, McNulty is the American national champion in the time-trial, so does he head to Glasgow with confidence in taking the rainbow jersey? “Honestly I’ve not looked into the TT course much yet," he admits. "I know it’s got some hills and has an uphill finish, so it’ll be hard. But I’m excited for it.”
“It’s one I wanted since I turned pro, so being able to come home and knock it out was really nice,” continues McNulty, referencing his national title win. “Then after the Worlds, I have Hamburg, the Deutschland Tour, the races in Canada which will be fun and then the Tour of Luxembourg to end the year. It’s nice to have that kind of relaxed finish, but there will be some opportunities along the way for sure.”
