Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe is currently in a complicated situation with
Oier Lazkano, having signed the Spaniard as a great hope into the 2025 season but not having had any reward from it. Furthermore the rouleur was suspended from racing internally from May onwards, and suspended by the UCI now in recent weeks which has led to him being fired.
Primoz Roglic adressed the case of his teammate.
Lazkano on four occasions presented irregular values on his biological passport, most likely due to some performance-enhancing method that is not legal, however it was not possible to identify the exact cause. Reportedly, he was also not able to justify it, hence why the provisional suspension from the UCI.
"I mean it's just a shit situation for himself," Roglic said in the microphone of
Marca. "Didn't really spend so much time this year, I think this year we only did Algarve together. He's in a hard situation..."
The irregularities happened whilst Lazkano was racing for Movistar from 2022 to 2024, and it was also noticeable how Lazkano did not have good legs throughout the entire spring before he was pulled out of competition. However the German team found itself in the middle of a messy situation with a rider that didn't ultimately pay off as an investment, and has brought negative attention towards the team. Lazkano was not part of the team's camp in late October in Salzburg, Austria; and has been removed from the team in the meantime.
His future is uncertain whilst on the main team there are now two position to fill - one of them, reportedly,
could be given to Intermarché - Wanty sprinter Arne Marit. Roglic himself will be having to schedule up with Remco Evenepoel as teammates for the first time whilst contesting leadership positions also with Florian Lipowitz, Jai Hindley and Giulio Pellizzari.
