As expected,
Remco Evenepoel has regained the maglia rosa after the long time trial of the
Giro d'Italia, although he gained less advantage than expected, leaving the overall completely open.
Thus, the Belgian is less than a minute ahead of what seems to be his main rivals for the final victory in Rome: Primoz Roglic, Geraint Thomas (who is now second) and Tao Geoghegan Hart.
Joao Almeida is now fifth after a discreet time trial, although he will have to be counted on in the remaining 2 weeks of competition. Norwegian Andreas Leknessund remains in the top 10 after defending in the time trial and Aleksandr Vlasov, Damiano Caruso, Lennard Kämna and Pavel Sivakov close the top positions.
