Giro d'Italia: Alberto Dainese wins sprint in Reggio Emilia

Team DSM are having a very successful Giro d'Italia as today they have brought in a strong stage win, as Alberto Dainese surprised to take the win in Reggio Emilia in what was a mightily impressive sprint.

Despite the tailwind on the day, very few riders showed willpower to spend a long day out in the day's breakaway, which led to a very calm start. Luca Rastelli (Bardiani-CSF-Faizanè) and Filippo Tagliani (Drone Hopper - Androni Giocattoli) took up the responsabilities, but were caught with 92 kilometers to go.

That was because INEOS Grenadiers pushed the pace to go for the three bonus seconds at the intermediate sprint, which Richard Carapaz grabbed. Dries de Bondt attacked with 58 kilometers to go and tried to elude the peloton. His efforts were valiant, but the Belgian 's efforts only resisted until the entrance to the final kilometer.

Groupama - FDJ and Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team took the head of the peloton in the last few meters, and Démare launched his sprint early on alongside Fernando Gaviria. Reward came to those who launched their bid to the line late, as Alberto Dainese carried a lot of speed from behind to take the biggest win of his career so far.

Dainese beat Fernando Gaviria and Simone Consonni to the line, with the peloton arriving safely to the finish.
