General Classification Standings after Stage 5
The outlook of the overall classification has changed completely. Lidl-Trek did everything they could to try and protect the pink jersey:
Giulio Ciccone and Derek Gee covered attacks on the first climb; whilst the team chased on despite having few men after the chaotic start.
But after Viggiano, the gap was too big, and without anyone to help, the German team let go of the race lead. Hence,
Afonso Eulálio, who gained over 7 minutes over the peloton, has jumped into the race lead.
Because of his crash, it's uncertain how he will be able to defend it, but he now has over 6 minutes over the main GC contenders, which puts him in position to hold the jersey for several days and potentially also finish high in the overall classification.
Igor Arrieta has moved into second, followed by Christian Scaroni and Andrea Raccagni. The Quick-Step rider and Johannes Kulset are now fourth and fifth in GC after attacking the peloton following the end of the chase, winning four minutes on the road.
Jonas VIngegaard is now notably down to 15th place, but the main GC contenders remain together in the standings, with the climb to Blockhaus in a few days to mix it up once again.

King of the Mountains Standings after Stage 5
The first mountainous stage of the race brought some changes. Diego Pablo Sevilla (42 points) does remain comfortable in the lead after his efforts throughout the stages in Bulgaria. Nelson Oliveira was second with 18 points and now he is joined by Igor Arrieta who was the first over the climb to Viggiano today. However Arrieta and new fourth place Einer Rubio may chase overall results, whilst Oliveira is not a top climber. Hence, his lead remains rather comfortable.

In the youth classification, Eulálio has also been rewarded with a climb to the podium. The previous leader Jan Christen was personally covered by Giulio Ciccone early in the day, meaning he could not escape the peloton.
However, it will be Igor Arrieta who will wear the white jersey on stage 6, borrowing the jersey from the rider he joined today in the escapee group. Raccagni and Kulset also managed to jump into the first positions here.
