General Classification Standings after Stage 14
Stage 14 has finally turned the Giro d’Italia general classification into Jonas Vingegaard’s race. After more than a week of chasing Afonso Eulalio, the Team Visma | Lease a Bike leader now sits in the Maglia Rosa with a two miute 26-second advantage over the Bahrain Victorious rider. Eulalio limited the damage better than it first looked when he cracked on Pila, but the pink jersey has finally changed shoulders.
Felix Gall also comes out of the day well. He moves up to third overall at 2:50, keeping himself firmly in the podium battle after riding his own tempo behind Vingegaard. Thymen Arensman slips one place to fourth at 3:03, losing ground after his big time-trial gain earlier in the week.
Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe had a stronger GC day than recent illness concerns might have suggested. Jai Hindley rises to fifth at 3:43, while Giulio Pellizzari climbs three places to sixth at 4:22 after surviving deep into the final climb. Michael Storer is seventh at 4:46.
Ben O’Connor and Derek Gee-West are the biggest losers inside the top 10, dropping to eighth and ninth respectively, while Davide Piganzoli’s huge domestique ride for Vingegaard also moves him into the top 10 overall at 6:13. Visma now have Vingegaard in pink, Piganzoli tenth and Sepp Kuss seventeenth, underlining how strongly they controlled the day.
