Stage 9 of the Giro d'Italia 2024 put an end to a very exciting first week of the Corsa Rosa, which will have its first first rest day next Monday, May 13. The day, which was decided in a tremendous sprint finish in Napoli despite Jhonatan Narvaez's attempt to surprise the peloton, has left virtually no changes in a general classification that will be led by Tadej Pogacar on the first rest day of the race.
So far, Pogacar has three stage wins in total, wearing the maglia rosa since the second stage and closing the first week 2:40 in advance of his nearest challenger, Daniel Martinez.
As for the other members of the Top 10 overall, Geraint Thomas suffered a crash 58 km from the finish of stage 9, which caused a slight scare at INEOS Grenadiers, as several of the Briton's teammates also went down. However, they soon caught up with the peloton and left their leader, who remains third overall, safe.
Ben O'Connor stays 4th, Cian Uijtdebroeks, teammate of the day's winner Olav Kooij on Visma - Lease a Bike, remains 5th, Antonio Tiberi is 6th, Lorenzo Fortunato, 7th; and Thymen Arensman, Einer Rubio and Jan Hirt complete the Top 10.
