Stage 3 of the
Giro d'Italia 2024 was decided by sprint, and although
Tadej Pogacar didn't have to defend the Maglia Rosa, the Slovenian UAE Team Emirates leader attempted to take back-to-back stage wins with a thrilling attack. In the end, though it Tim Merlier who sprinted to victory.
Although the stage was decided in the sprint, Pogacar managed to gain a few seconds in the intermediate sprint.
Geraint Thomas, who joined the Maglia Rosa in that late attack also gained a second at the intermediate sprint and as such now sits second by right ahead of Daniel Martinez. Elsewhere,
Einer Rubio managed to climb one position and get Movistar Team into the Top 4 after overtaking
Cian Uijtdebroeks of Team Visma | Lease a Bike. The other rider who managed to climb positions in the Top 10 is
Alexey Lutsenko, who moved up from 11th to 9th.
