The KOM classification was a heavily battled classification at the Giro d'Italia, with the final week proving decisive. Besides a fifth place in the overall classification, Thibaut Pinot has succeeded and climbed to the podium for the first time at the end of a Giro.
The Frenchman has ridden into breakaway on stages 13 and 19, high mountain days, where he scored plenty points for the classification and finished second in both. He has had the ambition from the first week where he picked up many important points early on, and then took advantage of these breakaways and smart racing to grab the jersey. Tao Geoghegan Hart, Paul Lapeira, Davide Bais and Ben Healy also wore it, and the Frenchman himself lost it twice before definitely jumping to the lead on stage 19.
