Fran Miholjević is another name from the new generation to take into account. The 19-year old Croatian got himself in the breakaway of the third stage of the
Giro di Sicilia and took a breakthrough stage win after dropping his companions at the end of the hilly stage, taking a very important win for Cycling Team Friuli ASD.
Alessandro Iachi (Team Qhubeka), Veljko Stojnić (Team Corratec), Martin Svrček (Biesse - Carrera), Frederico Burchio (Work Service Vitalcare Vega) and Fran Miholjević (Cycling Team Friuli ASD) got themselves in the break of the day and ended up being in the right move.
Miholjević attacked the group with 12 kilometers to go and went solo into the win, his first in his pro career. The peloton behind stretched out in the wind and repeated hills, however there was no concerted chase to bring the youngster back, and with an incredible sustained power he got to the finish in Piazza Armerina in first place. He has jumped onto the overall lead of the race with this breakaway, as the Italian national team didn't seem concerned in preventing him from doing so.
Pier-André Coté and
Filippo Fiorelli led the peloton home taking second and third place on the stage, The GC favourites arrived together, and will tomorrow be fighting for the GC win on the slopes of Etna.
