Geraint Thomas sits third ahead of third Tour de France week with high ambitions

Geraint Thomas has finished the second week of the Tour de France safely, and remains having a consistent and flawless race in France with very high form. Although distant from the two riders ahead in terms of climbing legs, the Briton has been able to ride his way into the podium and with Jumbo-Visma's yesterday he finds himself with a better shot of climbing up the overall.

"For sure it's not good for them to lose two guys. Like Roglič – even if he was struggling, he still rode pretty well yesterday. And then unfortunate, the Kruijswijk crash. I don't really know what happened there, I didn't see it," Thomas told reporters at the end of stage 15. Jumbo-Visma sustained heavy losses, aswell as seeing Vingegaard, Van Aert and Benoot all crash on a day that proved very complicated for the Dutch team.

Although INEOS have not been able to directly contest with Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar, with both teams having two riders less, the British team can still take advantage of their numeric superiority having aswell Adam Yates and Tom Pidcock inside the Top10.

Into the third week of the race Thomas remains in third position and with strongly backed ambitions to step onto the podium in Paris. "In a decent position. You know it's tough with the two guys leading, but ahead of the rest, which is nice," he concluded.
