GC update Vuelta a Espana stage 2 - Jonas Vingegaard already in the race lead; Tiberi loses time

The Vuelta a Espana, after two days of racing, has reached the mountains and we see the first gaps opening in the overall classification. Jonas Vingegaard perhaps wasn't the big favourite to win today's stage in Limone, but the Team Visma | Lease a Bike rider proved to be the strongest rider and has already taken over the lead of the overall classification.

The Visma rider endured a fall in the last hour of racing but the team didn't seem to feel it, and did an ideal work on the final climb to position him and close down the late attacks. Whilst former red jersey Jasper Philipsen was dropped, the climbers came to the front.

Vingegaard's victory will come mostly as a source of motivation and confirmation of good form, but on paper he has gained a few seconds on the competition. Giulio Ciccone, David Gaudu and Egan Bernal were able to gain 2 seconds on the road too, forming a small split to around 20 riders behind. Antonio Tiberi lost 21 seconds on the road, a surprising loss which sees him fall down the GC quite a bit.
