The
Tirreno-Adriatico 2024 has been practically sentenced this Friday, barring any surprises, after
Jonas Vingegaard's spectacular solo attack 29 kilometers from the finish line that has placed the Visma - Lease a Bike star at the top of the general classification, with a big lead over his main pursuers: Juan Ayuso and Jai Hindley.
Up to this point, Vingegaard had been patiently waiting for his chance to blow the fight for the overall. He hadn't led at any point in the previous days, and when he was pedaling almost 30 kilometers from the finish in San Giacomo, the two-time Tour de France winner showed his enormous dominance to go all out for the stage win and clinch the overall.
After the day, Jonas Vingegaard is 54 seconds ahead of Juan Ayuso, who is in second place ahead of Jai Hindley, who is 26 seconds ahead of the UAE Team Emirates Spaniard. Behind, Thymen Arensman is 4th (1:29 behind Vingegaard), Ben O'Connor, 5th (1:32 behind the Visma leader), and Isaac del Toro, 6th, two seconds behind O'Connor.
