An incredibly talented rider, it was surprising that Fred Wright hadn't won as a pro until today, however his first pro win is very special. The Bahrain - Victorious rider has won the British national championships only days before his return to the Tour de France.
Wright proved his worth in the challenging hilly circuit, throughout the rainy day he managed to take part in the offensive groups and in the end he was in the leading trio together with James Knox and Stephen Williams. The fastest sprinter, he was the rider under pressure, but despite that he was the one to launch the decisive attack in the penultimate ascent of the day, crossing the line solo pointing to the sky in tribute to his late teammate Gino Mäder. Knox finished second whilst Williams resisted to third spot.
