"Fortunately everyone made it to the finish safely" - Jonas Vingegaard avoids late crash at Tirenno-Adriatico on cold and wet stage 3

Stage 3 at Tirreno-Adriatico 2024 saw the cold, rain and wind batter the peloton on a miserable day in Italy. With Phil Bauhaus taking victory in the sprint, the most important thing for Team Visma | Lease a Bike was keeping Jonas Vingegaard safe.

"It was a long day," stated Team Visma | Lease a Bike's sports director Grischa Niermann post-stage in conversation with the team's official website. "With Robert Gesink dropping out, we started this stage with mixed feelings."

Niermann was keen to impress just how horrible the conditions were for the riders on the road during the day. "Along the way it started to rain. In my opinion, it never stopped," he laments. "The low temperatures didn't make it very pleasant. Little happened along the way, but fortunately everyone made it to the finish safely. That's the most important thing."

Vingegaard remains very much in the fight for the general classification, sitting 8th in the general classification, just 22 seconds down on overall leader, Juan Ayuso.
