Taking the biggest win of his career, Jordi Meeus surprised the favourites to secure the victory on the iconic Parisian cobbles of the Champs-Elysees.
“It is without a doubt the best day of my sports career,” says the BORA - hansgrohe sprinter in his post-stage interview after taking a narrow photo finish win ahead of Jasper Philipsen. “I knew after the previous sprints that more was possible than the results I had achieved. Today everything went perfectly. I am super happy that I was able to finish it.”
“I felt good all day. The beginning was easy, of course, but from the moment it went full throttle, I felt incredibly good. Marco Haller then did a great job positioning, Danny van Poppel was there too. I had Mads Pedersen's wheel and came out of the slipstream. I passed him on the line,” continues Meeus.
“It was my first Tour. It was already a great experience and to win now is indescribable," he concludes. "Whether the green jersey is a goal for next year? That is a completely different story, especially when you see Philipsen's lead. I'm going to enjoy this first."
